Week 3 Part A: Aesthetics, Design, and Branding

Website: http://gatesnfences.com

Potential ProblemsThe first thing that seems wrong with this page is the cluster of information, which makes it easy to get lost. The vertical menu is very long and forces you to scroll to the bottom of the page. I also see a lot of controversial font sizes and colors that have a harsh effect on some typography.

Professional or Not?: This website does not come across to me as being professionally done. The choice of colors don't mix well, the font is too small, and it is disorganized.

ImprovementsThe colors should be more fluent with each other and some resizing in the font would make a big difference. I think the biggest issue is the proximity of sections and too much information in each section. These adjustments would allow the website to be less cluttered and not overwhelm the visitor when viewing it.

Potential ProblemsThe first thing I notice is that the choice of colors is not pleasing to the eye. On the vertical menu, each option has a picture of a vehicle in the background with different colored fonts, which makes it hard to read. The vertical menu forces you to scroll to the bottom of the page due to being so long.

Professional or Not?: This website does not seem professionally done to me. The color scheme is all over the place, there are punctuation mistakes, and there is information piled on top of each other.

ImprovementsThe vertical menu could be improved by changing the background picture and font color. There are some irrelevant pictures of the vehicles on the homepage that could be moved to the gallery instead. The content of the website needs to have a consistent size and color font.

Website: https://www.nps.gov/index.htm

Done Right: This website is simple to look at. I don't have to scroll to find anything, I can navigate and find what I need quickly. The images on the website are related to what I am expecting to see. They have their social media links in clear sight for the visitor to see.

Professional or Not?: This website comes across as being professionally done. It is organized and easy to navigate from page to page.

Reaction: This website design has sparked my interest in getting up and going outdoors. There are many short articles on topics that can help me plan a trip somewhere new.

Done Right: The website is designed simple and straight to the point. The effective use of white space makes customer eyes drawn to the product. The full-width photographs are well aligned and clean cut. The content is easy to find, navigate, and consume.

Professional or Not?: This website seems professionally done to me. It is simple at the first glance but is also technical with the different options you have to choose from. It is not overwhelming and makes it easy to navigate through the different pages.

Reaction: This website design instantly made me think of buying a new Apple product. The iPhone 12 was the first thing that I saw when I visited this page. It just goes to show you how good Apple is when it comes to advertising its products.

Comments

  1. Nice reviews. The recommended improvements seem fairly straight forward and concise, while also considering abstract design elements.
I would generally recommend removing the headers and converting to a paragraph format.
