Week 13 Part A: Online Advertising

An advertisement must catch my attention within a matter of seconds. Choosing the right image, that both draws attention to your ad and fully conveys the story of your product, is as important as the words that accompany it. When the ad tells me to do something, whether it claims a discount on the product, participate in a free trial or visit a retailer to purchase it for a limited time, it draws my attention that much more. An ad that came across my Instagram feed was an advertisement for pre-workout. The imagery that the advertisement used was effective because it showed a muscular man holding the product. When people buy these types of products, they think that they will make them look like the people in the ads. Which is not the case whatsoever. Annoying advertisements are the ones that offer you something but in return, you must sign up with a credit card. They claim that it is free but still make you sign up with your email and credit card number.

I would say ads on social media are much more effective than traditional advertising.  They are catered more to the user and are generally simpler. Nowadays people use their phones for everything and use social media daily. With advertising on social media, companies have more of a chance to reach an audience than in a newspaper. Social media allows the target audience to directly engage with the ad by clicking on it which leads to more exposure to your product or brand. This isn't the case for everyone since there are people who still watch the news and read magazines, however, social media is growing by the day and more people are hopping on the wagon to join.
